Fun, fun, fun

October 31, 2006 – 10:55 pm

We just got home not too long ago after walking through one of THE most beautiful, not to mention richest, parts of SF. It was crowded. Oh yes it was. But seeing all the people out there and viewing the homes that are normally closed off any other time of the year was just cool! People out there are generous. We went by Ro.bin Will.iams house and his peeps were giving out striped glow necklaces. Other homes were giving out FULL size and even KING size candy bars. Holy cow. We ran into people from hula class and karate too. 3 haunted houses on people’s properties… that’s just awesome! And it wasn’t half-assed either, they went all out. We didn’t come with much candy, like we normally would, people we’re only giving out 1 piece at a time b/c of the crowds, but it’s not like the kids eat all the candy anyhow. I’ve already set aside a bag to give to my mom. This was our first time out there, but definitely not our last. If only we would live there… ahahaha *note to self* must play Lotto more often ;) .

Pumpkin Patch 2006 & the weekend

October 29, 2006 – 4:07 pm

Pumpkins in a row

We finally made it out to the “patch” yesterday. One of the ones in the city. It’s the only time we could fit in. I would have liked to take them to one of the ones in HMB, considering it’s only about 20 minutes away, but with the busy scheduling and such we just couldn’t fit them in. So yesterday it was. Pictures are pictures and you’ll know where to find those.

We also had a party at the karate school, see previous post. N won for best costume in the 3 and under category ;) . And then after that party we headed to a Gymbo party. Never been to one of those before. I thought it was kinda whatevers.

Today I took the kids to get their photos taken in their costumes. N was NOT having it. And J is not very cooperative as of late either. Good thing for the free sheet and 20% off.

Time to go spend time with the ohana before we head out to Fresh Choice for dinner!

Batch 2 is now done as well

October 29, 2006 – 12:46 pm

Mummy cakes

Mummycakes! I can’t remember which magazine I had seen it in, but I like the way thay came out. And so simple too. Not to mention there was quite a bit of frosting leftover. This batch went to the karate picnic. Chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting. Just the way I like it, too bad I never got to sink my teeth into any. And so ends the baking for the Halloween season. J has a class party on Tuesday but I’m going to make it easier on myself and just bring in a bag of chips. There’s only 10 kids in the class anyhow.

Batch 1 is done

October 26, 2006 – 10:35 pm

Cupcakes for the bake sale

24 cupcakes for the carnival bake sale are done. Nothing fancy. I just don’t care to deal with fancy and crafty as of late, good thing I grabbed the $1 sprinkles from Target at the start of the season. French vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Actually not my favorite as I prefer just the opposite, chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting. Yumm-0

In a rut

October 26, 2006 – 9:08 am

There are things that I want to do (cooking and crafting). Things that I want to say (on here and my other 3 blogs). Things that I want to take pictures of. But I’m in a rut. I’m feeling so boring lately. I’ve gotta bake some cupcakes by tomorrow evening so that they can sell them at the Halloween carnival at J’s school tomorrow. I suppose I should do them today/ tonight but I don’t have the motivation to do so. But why does buying something sound more appealing?

SOLD!

October 24, 2006 – 12:21 am

How encouraging. Not even 4 hours since I posted to crai.gs.list and the breakfast nook is S.O.L.D! Makes me rethink the price of it, Big Mister actually was the one who decided the price, and now I’m thinking it could’ve gone for more. Oh well. It’s SOLD. And now I want to go and take pictures of the other things I’ve been wanting to sell. I’m excited!

Worth every penny

October 23, 2006 – 10:25 pm

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn’t even touch college tuition. But $160,140 isn’t so bad if you break it down. It translates into:

* $8,896.66 a year,
* $741.38 a month,
* $171.08 a week.
* That’s a mere $24.24 a day!
* Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is don’t have children if you want to be “rich.” Actually, it is just the opposite.

What do you get for your $160,140?
* Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
* Glimpses of God every day.
* Giggles under the covers every night.
* More love than your heart can hold.
* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
* Endless wonder over rocks, ants,
clouds, and warm cookies.
* A hand to hold, usually covered with
jelly or chocolate.
* A partner for blowing bubbles, flying
kites
* Someone to laugh yourself silly with,
no matter what the boss said or how your
stocks performed that day.

For $160,140, you never have to grow up. You get to:
* finger-paint,
* carve pumpkins,
* play hide-and-seek,
* catch lightning bugs, and never stop believing in Santa Claus.

You have an excuse to:
* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,
* watching Saturday morning cartoons,
* going to Disney movies, and
* wishing on stars.
* You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother’s Day, and cards with backward letters for Father’s Day.

For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for:
* retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,
* taking the training wheels off a bike,
* removing a splinter,
* filling a wading pool,
* coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.

You get a front row seat to history to witness the:
* first step,
* first word,
* first bra,
* first date, and
* first time behind the wheel.

You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you’re lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match. In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits. So . . one day they will like you, love without counting the cost. That isquite a deal for the price!!!!!!!

Meme

October 22, 2006 – 10:45 pm

Meme
Time for a meme via Mare.

  • Grab the book nearest to you, turn on page 18 and find line 4. “That is not true. I am exactly the same size as I was last week” (The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant, the lastest installment of the “Darlingtons”)
  • Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. Hello Kitty dressed in a muumuu hanging on the lamps switch next to my bed.
  • What is the last thing you watched on TV? Brothers and Sisters, it’s actually still on.
  • Without looking, guess what time it is? 10:32PM
  • Now look at the clock, what is the actual time? 10:34PM. Good shit. Last time I looked it was 10:18PM
  • With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? Brothers and Sisters on the telly and the big mister talking to his BFF in the living room.
  • When did you last step outside? What were you doing? Around 1PM today, was coming home from being out all morning. Shopping and taking J to hula.
  • Before you started this survey, what did you look at? Honestly? My keiki blog.
  • What are you wearing? pantulog aka pajamas but they’re all mismatches clothes. A navy blue tshirt from the Aloha swap meet, and turquoise capri jammie pants from ON, my glasses, and my new favorite Hanes panties.
  • Did you dream last night? Yeah I think so, I just don’t remember anymore.
  • When did you last laugh? A couple hours ago before I put the lilmiss to sleep.
  • What is on the walls of the room you are in? Dust? And cobwebs
  • Seen anything weird lately? Eh, not so much.
  • What do you think of this quiz? Eh, it’s filling up some downtime.
  • What is the last film you saw? The Little Mermaid… again, at the U house last night.
  • If you became a multimillionaire overnight, what would you buy? The car that I actually want and a house. And yeah all that other stuff like investing and putting away for college funds.
  • Tell me something about you that I dunno. For the past few nights, before I go to bed I watch an episode of Weeds. Pretty good tv.
  • If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? Yeah I like Mare’s response… An increase in compassion. And for people, including myself, to think before speaking.
  • Do you like to dance? Eh. it’s alright. I’d rather sing.
  • George Bush Yeah what about him?
  • Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? Noelani
  • Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him? Jordan
  • Would you ever consider living abroad? I don’t know I really like the United States, and don’t do well when English is NOT the primary language
  • What do you want GOD to say to you when you reach the pearly gates? That is assuming I get there too. What were you thinking?

  • Happy Friday

    October 20, 2006 – 7:36 am

    G’ Morning, we’re up a little earlier than usual b/c J has to be off to school soon, he’s got a field trip to the pumpkin patch, and while normally I’d love to chaperone the lil miss isn’t allowed to come. So we’ve gotta make a separate trip out to the patches before Halloween to get some pumpkins.

    This weekend isn’t chock full of parties and activities. J was supposed to have a hotel sleepover but it didn’t work out, so it’s held off for another weekend. So I think we might actually get to have ohana time tomorrow.

    Yesterday we went out to IK.EA and picked up some things, which won’t get put together until Monday. We’re selling a lovely corner breakfast nook thinger, I’ll have to post photos once all the crap on TOP of it is cleared away. Heh.

    I seriously need to get my booty in gear and start posting some things to craig.slist before they’re not sellable anymore.

    Okay well I’ve gotta get something in the lil missy’s tummy before we head out.

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

    Random babblings

    October 16, 2006 – 11:20 pm

    Thanks to Ms 6 I found out the author of Lemo.ny Snick.et*s went to my HS alma mater. His graduation speech just brought back so many HILARIOUS memories. And b/c I have until February to read my next installation of the Darlington’s, I kinda want to pick up his book The Ba*sic Ei.ght. I seriously need to put my library card to better use huh? Which reminds me, I need to check when the lil man’s research books we took out are due. I’ll need to renew soon. Thankfully I can do it online now :D .

    I’ve been in a wannabe cooking mode, but not so much as cooking but eating lovely things. Heh. Too bad it hasn’t happened.

    And in other wannabe modes, I’ve been itching to craft something but nothing has come of it. Too lazy.

    Last night wasn’t fun with the sickies. BLAH! I couldn’t breath through either nostril which sucked. And now, I’ve got chapped lips from breathing through my mouth.

    Downloading frenzy, there are a few shows that I’ve been missing here and there and thanks to the VooDoo, I don’t need to worry about that anymore. WOO HOO! What shows am I in love with this season? There are far too many, thankfully my Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays do not involve much telly watching. But yesterday b/c I was nursing the cold and refused to go out the door… there came the realization that there ain’t jack sh*t on tv, even beyond football.

    I am having material envy as of late. There are things that I want, but don’t need. And if I had the money to get these things, I probably wouldn’t even get them and instead get things for the kids. I still need a wardrobe relift, anyone want to submit me to “What Not to Wear” or “How Do I Look?” Seriously!

    Need to put on some gloves tomorrow, we’re hopefully going to get down and dirty *get your head out the gutter*. Going to the dumps, purging and donating *cross your fingers* oh yeah and recycling this week too, hopefully!

    *Achooo* *sniffle, sniffle*

    October 15, 2006 – 4:10 pm

    The house has been invaded by the germies. ICK! EVERYONE is sick, all thanks to the mister and his recent trip. I should’ve armed him with some air.born.e dammit! I felt it yesterday, I knew it was coming on and sure enough my nose was plugged and now I’ve got the sinus craps and can’t breath. The kids are hit too. BLAH! Stay away from our house, you’ll be sure to catch something. I’m going to run the humidifier tonight in the hopes of it helping me to sleep better tonight.

    One good thing, I’ve gotten out of cooking dinner for tonight, I’m just not feeling like I wanna… but now it’s a matter of deciding WHAT we’re having. BLAH.

    A whale off the coast

    October 12, 2006 – 8:12 pm

    In all the years we’ve lived here, I’ve always wondered IF and WHEN I would ever witness something in the waters. Like I’ve said before, we can see the ocean from our front window. So I as driving my brother down to the deli so he could get a sandwich to eat before his flight took off, and off the coast, not even a mile… we saw a huge SPLASH! I pulled the car over and we watched and watched. We saw water spouting and I’m not sure if it was a fluke or a flipper. I was in frickin AWE!!! It was soooo awesome. My brother commented the waters were rather calm. And I know that this time of year the whales are migrating south. How awesome though, huh? Now I want to go whalewatching! Something I’ve wanted to do since… like forevers!

    Mundane

    October 11, 2006 – 8:42 pm

    Nothing much going on over here. Our weekends are not our own, as once again we’ve got a birthday party and a karate function in the same day.

    Lil man has been keeping busy with school work and has gotten his report card already. Pretty spectacular :D , except of course his handwriting grade. GAH! He takes after his father that’s for certain. I tell him over and over again, as I can hear him writing and tell him to take his time. Yeah it’s loud enough that I can hear that he is not writing with care. Oh the joys of writing in pencil (nonmechanical at that)! I know I shouldn’t be so hard on him considering he did so well in everything else, but to see THAT grade tarnishing the rest of the report card is just. It’s just. YUCK! And no it’s not of the EFF variety, but still. YUCK!

    So we’ve got a parent teacher conference tomorrow.I don’t have many questions. Normally my questions are of the behavior type. Other than that I know what’s going on in classes b/c I’m the one who struggles through homework with him. Not fun.

    The costumes are purchased, I just need to find a few accompaniments to the lilman’s and take in an inch or 2 on the lilmissy’s skirt. We need to take a trip to the pumpkin patch, just don’t know when.

    I am sweating like a pig

    October 8, 2006 – 1:52 pm

    *oink, oink! OHMYGULAY!!!! It’s frickin hot in those mofo ;) . No seriously though. It’s hot. I got the bright idea to wash my car since it’s so hot and I was dying to finish. No double wash this time, which is the norm for me. I also got it in my big old head to do some chores. *gasp* Washing clothes and minor tidying up and now all I wanna so is take a nappy nap. But no nappy nap, as the keiki are wreaking havoc already. Lilman is shirtless b/c it’s so damned hot and the lilmissy’s cheeks are bright red. Maybe I can have him finish his homework and we can have dindin with the BFF. I would take them to some indoor a/c goodness but I just don’t have it in me to make the trek. So off to the couch I go. What is with this weather? It was JUST raining the other day!

    One of the purchases from the weekend

    October 7, 2006 – 9:52 pm

    never fairies

    It’s such a lovely book! I’m in love with the artwork and I can’t wait for N to appreciate it and ask me to read it to her every night ;) .

    Is he home yet?

    October 6, 2006 – 10:40 pm

    B/c I’m tired. I know that I can function without him. I can play the role of single mom, but DAMN I am T.I.R.E.D. And despite spending a lot of time with my ‘rents, being at home alone with the kids doesn’t allow for any me time. Not even a private moment in the bathroom, without hearing screams and yelling and sometimes even crying. I’ve had to plan my mornings accordingly so as not to wake her, so I can get things done. I fear that she’ll fall out of the bed. It’s rather high, and she actually did fall out of the bed the first night :( , btwn the bed and the nightstand. Of course after, what seemed, the 50 billionth time she woke up for the night. But accordingly actually hasn’t worked out, b/c she’s acutally gotten up with the alarm, and my alternate routine is to have J sit with her in the bed while I take a quick shower.

    Believe me, I’ve tried to pawn the baby off to my mom a few times and let her sleep the night. But my mom has declined, fair enough though. Mama Toots actually made a point, that despite my wants to leave her with the ‘rents and think that I might catch a good night’s sleep, I probably wouldn’t be able to do it and I would toss and turn with the lack of extra warmth in the bed. Which is probably why she hasn’t been sleeping too well either. She needs her daddy on the other side of the bed.

    We’ve been keeping busy and actually been out of the house quite a bit. J was off today instead of Monday, so we made plans to head to Vaca.ville with my ‘rents. Shopping. Shopping. And more shopping. I pretty much got everything I was looking for. Both keiki got slip on Va.n’s! They’re so stinking cute! Got lilman’s costume to compliment the lilmissy’s costume. Picked up some uber cute HK stuff :D , for myself of course. I soooooooo need a new pair of shoes, but I still haven’t found any. Fooey.

    Tomorrow we’ve got 2 parties to attend. A classmate one 1st and then a family one after.

    Sunday I was hoping to take a rest, but I promised the BFM that we would hang out. We’ll see, maybe I can get myself out of it and say I’m prepping for the bigmister’s return home.

    Can Sunday night come any sooner. PLEASE?

    T-minus 6 minutes

    October 4, 2006 – 8:56 pm

    Season 3 starts in less than 10 minutes. I’m excited. This better not be lame. Both kids are sound asleep and the laptop will soon to go sleep as well. How lucky were the people in HI? Man a screening on the beach with the stars!?!?! And I’m excited to see newcomer Rod.rigo Santera… oh the HAWTNESS!

    It’s time to PAR-TAY!

    October 3, 2006 – 9:40 pm

    Ahaha… NOT. The big mister, as I’m typing this, is boarding his airplane for his conference. He won’t be back until early Monday morning and already I miss him :( . Hong Kong Fooey! The lil miss is on and off with this thing she has right now. Last night she barfed on me, she woke up fine. She was fine nearly all day, up until about 4ish and she had a temp again. She was her normal self at J’s karate class and then we got home she was lethargic and kuwawa again. She even fell asleep between the couch and a box on the floor :( after she ate all her dinner. I’m afraid of a repeat of last night. I don’t know if she caught something over the weekend. I don’t know if it’s that one tooth that’s causing her misery and not her normal self *sigh* Oh well… looks like it’s just me and my babies until the big mister’s return. I feel like I’m already looking forward to late Sunday night/ early Monday morning!

    Let’s eat

    October 3, 2006 – 2:39 am

    Seeing as how I am no where near tired… I’ll take this meme thanks to Mare

  • Favorite Comfort Food Nearly anything Mom makes. But I ♥ me some chicken tinola, dinengdeng, and beef nilaga, which all happen to be soup concoctions. Serve with some rice and I could be in heaven.
  • Favorite Breakfast Meal Anything served with pancakes
  • Favorite Lunch Meal A taqueria burrito.
  • Favorite Dinner Meal See comfort food :)
  • Favorite Dessert Cheesecake
  • Favorite Cake Ooh Mare had a good one, I haven’t had a slice of Sunset Bakery cake in ages… now I’ve gotta run and get me some. What is it about their cakes? When in college, nearly 500 miles away from home, I got into a conversation about their cakes with a fellow Bay Area person.
  • Favorite Pasta No angel hair and no penne, ewwww! I like meaty sauces with mushrooms.
  • Favorite Dish That Others Find Weird That would probably have to be the dinengdeng. An Ilokano dish that has slimey veggies: saluyot and okra; Chinese long beans and random other veggies, cooked with bagoong (the fermented fish sauce, not the pink stuff), and shrimps or fish. I can do without the seafood and just pile on the veggies on a plate of steaming rice.
  • Favorite Fruits That You Haven’t Eaten In A While Maybe Honey Tangerines and persimmons.. but it’s beginning to be season, right?
  • Favorite Junk food Shrimp Chips, Cookies and Cream Dibs, Mrs Field’s Debra’s Special Cookies, Auntie Ann’s plain pretzals with marinara dip, Ranch Wavy Lay’s, lumpia shanghai
  • Favorite TV Show Related to Food (Cooking show, Travel show with food, etc.) Almost anything on Food Network
  • Favorite Pastries Almond croissants, cream puffs, donuts
  • Favorite Way to Eat Potatoes Mashed ‘taters, steak fries
  • Favorite Ice Cream Mitchell’s Mango and Mitchell’s Macapuno
  • Favorite Alcoholic Drink When You Really Really Really Want to Party Hukilau Punch ;) . Strawberry Dacquiri
  • Favorite Bar Chow chicken wings, potato skins, calamari
  • Favorite Chicken Dish Mom’s fried chicken wings, chicken tinola
  • Favorite Place to Eat with Your Sweetheart or Your Best Friend (Choose 1) Chevy’s since that’s his favorite place to eat
  • Favorite Place to Eat with your Family With my lil family, anywhere really. With the ‘rents and such, Happy Palace
  • Fill in the blanks: I wish I could eat ____ in/at _____ with ______. Ooh this is DAMNED tough. I don’t really know what I would want to eat, or where, or with who for that matter. Since I am still in love with that salad I had at Cheesecake a couple weeks back… I would have to say to just repeat that meal with the ladies, only I would have the BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad all to myself.

  • Late night/ early morning

    October 3, 2006 – 2:10 am

    Like I had previously mentioned, lilmiss has been running a temp. All day she was hot :( . Not her usual self. It’s no wonder that she kept dozing off. Had very little appetite. And was just all around NOT herself. We both conked out before 830PM. LoL. And then come 11 we both started to wake. I went and grabbed her meds and Pow.erade and she was peaceful just watching some S.prout. And then it happened. Blue spew all over the bed. GAH! Good thing the mister was home already, he came upstairs to help, we gave her a quicky bath and changed the beddings. And then she was okay, more or less. Her temps cooled down and I gave her some water and crackers. Poor thing :( .

    So now it’s 2 in the AM and I am showing no signs of tiredness. GAH!

    The weather

    October 2, 2006 – 5:53 pm

    Is so tempermental, quite similar to the lil miss. This morning there was a slight drizzle, and now… well now, the windows are all wide open allowing some fresh air inside and it’s also quite warm in here. Too bad the lil miss is under the weather. I noticed last night when I went to move her, she was warmer than usual. And then while bringing her in from the car from dropping J off to school, her cheeks were red and HOT. Poor lil thing. She’s not her usual sassy self and being very quiet. She has no real appetite for anything and keeps laying her head down whenever she gets a chance. I gave her a bit of meds and some Pow.erade and it has since seemed to lower some temps and cool her down.

    It’s supposed to rain tomorrow night.

    I found a skinny scarf that I had been working on awhile back. I thought I might let the lil miss have it b/c i didn’t get very far with it, but it’s black, might have to rethink that one.
