Day 4 recap- Wednesday 11.29.2006

November 30, 2006 – 10:45 am

Swap meet day!!!!

First we had to have breakfast though, mom’s choosing…

Breakfast of champions part 2

That would be the Portuguese sausage, rice, and eggs platter from McDonald’s! Only in Hawaii man!

The swappers was a bit disappointing. Didn’t come back with too much. The t-shirts are all still the same designs from the last time I was here. Suck. But at 8/ $20 what can you do huh? So lil man’s request for new t’s hasn’t been fulfilled.

Then headed to Waikele to hit up Old Navy. Wanted to see what they had seeing as how I toted the F&F cards with me. Only came out with 2 t’s for myself, less than $10.

And look what I spied in the parking lot…

Got Malasadas

The malasada wagon!!!!!!

For Maricar

Nothing! And I mean nothing is better than Leonard’s in the way of malasadas. Melts in your mouth and the sugar is all over your face. Ahahaha.

Headed up to the outlets to check out Local Motion for some t’s for the boys and LeSportsac :-D !!!! No Tokidoki though :( .

Came back to the hotel b/c my mom had a 5 hair appointment in Waikiki.

Found the spot which happened to be right by King’s Village. Dropped off mama and headed towards the water.

Waikiki beach

Only got to look b/c I wasn’t about to abandon my stroller and purse with all the shady individuals hanging around. It’s changed so much! But then again I haven’t been to Waikiki in a really, really long time. 8 + years, I think. We always stayed out at the ‘rents and avoided the tourists.

When mama was done, we headed out to get some dinner….

Dinner

Chili with rice. YUM. I ♥ Zippy’s. I told my mom that we gotta bring some home on the plane ;) . I also got my apple napple too!

Day 3 recap- Tuesday 11.28.2006

November 30, 2006 – 10:27 am

We headed out early today b/c we had an agenda to follow. First stop… Liliha Bakery.

Cream puffs and Coco puffs

That was our first time there, I’ve only heard that I needed to go and have some coco puffs. Woo, so ono!

Then we headed to Pearlridge to kill some time before we had to pick up my uncle back in Kalihi. He lives in the cuts! Across the street is the rainforest from his house. Yeah fo’reals. After we picked him up we headed to the ‘rents house. Awwww I wish we could’ve stayed there. So many summers and random times spent there. The house is looking great so it should be easy peasy for my parents when they move in early next year.

I did a lil wave to Miss Gracie, I wish we could’ve met up but she’s been MIA :( .

Then it was off to lunch at Shiro’s.

The numbah 15

One would think that’s just ramen. But it’s not! It’s saimin! Soooo ono too. Funny that eating a hot bowl of soup with all the fixxins can comfort on a hot day.

Headed to Daiei Don Quixote Market  so mama could use her senior citizen discount ;) . Picked up a few gifts here and there and headed back to drop off the uncle.

Went back to the hotel room, unloaded, washed up, and headed back out again. First to Ross, so mama could again use some senior discount, then to Marukai. How disappointing that place is. Stoped at Don Quixote in town and man that place was a mad house. But they seemed to have so many more things. Then to Ala Moana and finally back to the hotel.

Lovely

Lots and lots of food photos I know! We’re on vacation, can you blame us. LMAO. Actually there hasn’t been much time in the way of the beach, my mom’s been running me around town. Today, Thursday, I managed to squeeze in some day time to hit the waters, even though it’s not at my favorite beach.

Day 2 recap

November 28, 2006 – 10:52 am

So heeding to the calls of MY internal clock ended up being a bad idea b/c I had THE worst headache from hell in the afternoon.

We headed out fairly early, and tried to go to Liliha Bakery for some coco puffs. Empty parking lot! Always a bad sign, but there were people moving around inside. My mom checks the door and they’re closed on Mondays. Ah-poo! So guess where we’re headed again today. LoL.

Stopped off at my uncle’s in Kalihi Valley to drop off some dungeness crab and roast duck and then another stop in Mililani to my auntie’s house for the same reason. And no stop in Mililani would be complete without a stop at my favorite Walmart :D . We just priced items and picked up some slippahs for the keiki.

Then it was off to lunch at Tasty BBQ. A stop at Costco and one more at Sam’s. And then the headache kicked in. BLAH!

Took a nap and only woke up to feeling nauseous. I needed out of the room, so we took a walk and I felt MUCH better. We finally managed to get our feets in the water. YAY!

On her way back to the water

It was so inviting but I wasn’t equipped. Lil miss did NOT take to the water like I had hoped. window shopped and then headed back to the room.

Today we’ve got a few more things on the agenda. My agenda includes the beach but my mom just laughed me off :( .

Day 1 in Hawaii recap

November 27, 2006 – 7:52 am

We’re techinically coming up on day 2 in Hawaii, even though it’s only 4:30AM HST right now. Yeah I’m actually going to attempt to stay on PST b/c I can’t handle the jetlag that comes along with coming here when I go back home and resume my “duties”. But my mom and the baby are still asleep and there really isn’t much to do in the way of going out, or even hanging out with anyone.

The flight was okay. While at the airport I saw Wayne Brady and his daughter. They were actually on the same flight as us. I soooooo wanted to take a picture of him or even get an autograph but he looked like he didn’t want to be bothered. I’m surprised no one else noticed him. His daughter is adorable. “I’m Wayne Brady Bitch!” Of course they got VIP treatment and got to board the plane 10 minutes before everyone else.

Baby girl was a pain in the bootay for the beginning part of the flight. Oh I’d say maybe the first 2 hours. UGH. I knew she would want to run around and such, that’s why while we were waiting, I had her running and walking through the terminal. Seems that didn’t even do the trick. She was so all over the place. Then finally 2 hours later she took about an hour and a half nap which did us all some good. I just felt bad for all the people sitting around us. And then the last leg of the flight she did fine.

We changed her out of her clothes before we deplaned and luckily we did b/c it was HOT! Blech. Humid. Blech! And she just looked like she was in a daze b/c I’m sure she’s NOT used to weather like this. I kept telling my mom she’s probably wondering where we took her to and why? Ahahha.

After getting the rental we headed into town for some eats. Oh man Yumm-O for Yummy.

Yummy Chicken BBQ

I gotta have my fix, now if only they would make it a mainland joint. And we got some ice for the cooler and poke (pronounced pok-e, long O long E) for later. Grub!

ahi limu poke

kim chee tako poke

Oh man heaven! It’s similar to sushi just without all the rice.

We got our hotel room, and other than the lovely view, it’s a place to sleep at night and that’s about it. Unfortunately we’re way on top on the 34th floor. Being this high always scares me just b/c they’ve been having so many earthquake scares and being from Cali and experiencing so many in my lifetime, a pretty big one at that… it freaks me out. Anyhow we washed up and headed over to Ala Moana Shopping Center. Saw my beloved Tokidoki and thankfully I saw it in person, b/c the one I want isn’t the one I want anymore. LoL. There’s also a cute exclusive panda one right now. Must hold out til the end of the trip and see how much moola I have left over. Went to every store that I wanted to check out and sadly came up empty handed. Saw a few cute Hawaiian dresses for the lil miss but didn’t jump the gun just yet. Other than that my usual places that I like to get things at, there just wasn’t anything to be bought, thankfully. Just picked up water and juice and snacks at Long’s and called it a night.

I think today we’re heading out to see my aunt and uncle to drop off some crabs. Hopefully we’ll visit WalMart, Sam’s, and Costco to get a look at their goods as well.

Aloha from Hawaii ;) .

Aloha….

November 26, 2006 – 6:54 pm

Aloha from Hawaii

From our ohana to yours…

November 23, 2006 – 10:38 am

Adorably adorable.

November 22, 2006 – 9:23 pm

How stinkin cute is the new Winter Tokidoki line. I am sooooo wanting one in the “nice” design.

And thanks to lissa I am eyeing the cactus Tokidoki iPod skin. Too much cuteness. Must contain myself!

Interesting home remedies

November 20, 2006 – 11:08 am

Tape this inside medicine cabinet

Did You Know That? Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately — without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional “pain relievers.”

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They’ll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria..

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly — even though the product was never advertised for this use. ( Note : Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine is not the same..and contains aspirin, which can cause stomach bleeding if you have ulcers.)

Honey remedy for skin blemishes … Cover the blemish with a! dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Listerine < < /I > > therapy for toenail fungus … Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

Easy eyeglass protection … To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Coca-Cola cure for rust … Forget those expensive rust removers. Just saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done.

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer … If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can’t find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409 . Insects drop to the ground instantly.

Smart splinter remover …just pour a drop of Elmer’s Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Hunt’s tomato paste boil cure ….cover the boil with Hunt’s tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

Balm for broken blisters …To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine … a powerful antiseptic.

Heinz vinegar to heal bruises … Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.

Kills fleas instantly . Dawn dish washing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog’s bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Goodbye fleas

Rainy day cure for dog odor … Next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Eliminate ear mites … All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in your cat’s ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat’s skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief ….It’s not for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

At the Daly City library

November 15, 2006 – 11:41 pm

From the public library

We went to the library today to return some books and pick up some more. I thought I was all set with 6 board books for N and low and behold I came across these cute board books in Tagalog. My family’s dialect is not Tagalog, although both my parents can understand it. I took a class in college and my retention for the subject is very, very small. We get a weekly dosage of TFC while at my ‘rents for Friday night dinners. There are little words here and there that I say to the kids, I would love them to learn the language, but it doesn’t help that I don’t know it much.

More successful adventures in cooking

November 15, 2006 – 11:25 pm

ginisa

As you all know, I cook. And I love to cook. But I’ve been more “adventurous” in my cooking adventures. Going beyond the normal recipes I cook and dabbling in different things. I forgot to mention I cooked up some caldereta with beef last week. It’s a spicy kinda stew with potatoes, peas, carrots, and green bell peppers. I had the help of a Mama Sita packet, but it came out good too. I was the only one to eat it in this house, so a big to go bowl went over to the ‘rents to share. My dad and brother were all over it apparently and now my dad waits for me to cook other things and offer a bowl their way.

That there is chicken ginisa and rice. Really simple actually and very tasty. Boneless skinless chicken thighs, chayote squash (fresh from mom’s garden), garlic, onion, tomato, chicken broth, a little oil, and a little seasoning= YUM! With all the sabaw=soup, it almost even resembled a tasty rendition of chicken tinola minus the ginger. There’s plenty of leftovers. YAY!

YAY!!!

November 15, 2006 – 11:00 pm

Is it just me? Or did Karina already knew they lost? She just had that look through the entire show. HA! That’s what she gets. Go Team Emmitt and Cheryl, and I didn’t even need to call in. I tried. I’m telling you I did, but I kept getting a busy signal so I just gave up. Seems the rest of the world fell in love with Emmitt and Cheryl too, instead of Mr Dimples ;) . And did you see Cheryl’s proud mama? So cute!

You got a Coldstone in your ‘hood?

November 15, 2006 – 9:09 pm

BOGO ice cream!!!! Good until next year!!!

Baby at work

November 14, 2006 – 11:04 pm

Genius baby at work.

I’m very stingy with my laptop. J doesn’t even get laptop time. The only real time he gets to touch computers is at school, which means he isn’t too savvy :( . But I’m okay with that. I’d rather he pick up a book and read it or “play” with his toys and make up stories and using his imagination. The lilmiss actually got to touch the beloved laptop today though, as Papa Toots shared with me a lovely lil freeware “alphababy”. She hits the keys and corresponding letters, numbers, and shapes pop up and are said. She loooooooves it. However, when I take the computer away… the evil in her breaks loose and she screams at me like a banshee. If you’ve got a wee tot, it’s worth it!

Team Emmitt and Cheryl Burke

November 14, 2006 – 10:36 pm

dancwstars

Since day 1 that’s who I was rooting for! It’s his character and that smile. Go Team Emmitt and Cheryl!!!

Karina annoys me for some reason. Just ICK!

And yeah I attempted to vote, but busy signals all around. I would vote online but I don’t feel like registering. So it’s up to the rest of the world. Heh.

*bangs head with laptop*

November 13, 2006 – 9:09 pm

My son is going to send me to an early grave. I can feel the veins in my head ready to burst. He lost a weeks worth of television for not bringing home the essential paperwork for his last report and he was about to regain his tv privledges tonight and low and behold he lost them again. He had two assignments that he got LAST week and didn’t bother to do them until today on top of all the other homework that he has. He could have done the 2 assignments over the weekend but chose to goof off instead. It’s his homework and yet I find myself doing it too. It sucks. It’s frustrating. I don’t do it, but I do check over for mistakes and believe you me… there are often quite a few of them. UGH! This teacher is getting to be too much too, at first I was okay with it… but the reports and crap just keep piling/ adding up. Every month he has a big report.

It’s cold and rainy out there

November 13, 2006 – 4:58 pm

And inside, there’s still brownies being eaten. Some tri-tip being cooked, and well now it’s been eaten. And for dinner… “recycled fried rice”. Me and the lil miss are lounging around in our sweats. And I am wishing that I could make up a nice pot of chicken tinola but I’m not so brave to make one of the dishes that only my mama can make that pleases my palate.

I love when the weather is like this, and thankfully I have nowhere to go. Been reading my library book on and off and it’s been reminding me so much of high school. Big mister should be back from picking up the lil man anytime soon.

Hope you’re warm and snuggly too.

Busy, not so busy, and busy

November 12, 2006 – 10:36 pm

Despite not really having any plans for a “long” weekend I think I managed to tire myself out.

Friday, we hung out with my mom and did some shopping. Her call. I would have stayed home and saved money if it were me. The keiki made out like bandits, like usual *rolls eyes*. but that’s what grandparents are for, right? Had dinner with the ‘rents and came home and caught up on some dled tv.

Saturday, we lounged for the majority of the morning and headed out down the coast. Which reminds me I’ve got some photos from that day. We just drove down 1 and checked out the sites. I learned that my car, had smooth ride. Nice. Watched some boats and just took in some scenery. Headed back in the area of home and had dinner with the mister’s BFF at Outback. YUM! Big mister had to go to work so me and the keiki came home to watch Jo.hn Tu*cker Mu^st D.ie. Eh, totaly teen CHEESE! Maybe I should run out to Amoeba tomorrow and sell it, seeing as how it comes out on Tuesday. Heh! I ended up falling asleep on the couch while the children wrecked havoc on the living room while watching Sprout. Finally got up and had a horrid headache. BLECH!

Today, got up and took the lil man to hula class. Dropped him off and did a bunch of running around. Grocery shopping and looking for sandals for the lil miss. Found some awesome Reefs for her at Nord’strom Rack for $12.90 plus 35% off. SCORE! Picked up lil man and headed home to cook some lunch. Baked up some brownies and then headed out again with Mama Toots to check out the sales at Nordy’s and Gymbo. She found somethings at both. I had a handle on a dress and sweater at Gymbo, but put ‘em back. Must save money! Dropped MT home and fired up the oven.

I have now found my new favorite and tasty recipe all thanks to justjenn! Cap’n Crunch oven fried chicken…. AWESOME! It was a hit with everyone.

And now we’re here. I’m in bed with laptop, Desperate is on. Keiki are sleeping. Big mister is downstairs working. Despite not having any plans, I think the weekend was rather productive!

Oh yeah and I ran into a family whose child I used to watch at the downtown center. The daddy approached me and asked if I remembered them. I would not have recognized the child had she not been without her daddy. She has grown so much. FREAK, she’s TALKING!!! She’s sooooooo cute. Last time I saw her she was barely sitting up! They told me to come back to the center and sub again. LOL.

Attempting to save money

November 9, 2006 – 4:23 pm

With the holidays creeping up and a getaway in the near future, I’ve been trying my darndest to not spend. It’s not an easy feat, I tell ya. So I put off getting the 90210 box set, and low and behold the DVD fairy comes bearing FREE gifts :D !!!

DVD Freebies

Jo.hn Tuc*ker Mus*t Die and Season 1 of Mel.rose Plac.e too! I wouldn’t normally want the other ones, I was thinking of selling MP, but Mama Toots let me know that she loved MP, so, like I told her, she’s getting it for Christmas ;) . JTMD, actually comes out on DVD next week and was on the bottom of the Netflix list. I might just have to watch it tonight after Gre.y’s and then sell it or something. Lol.

And b/c Mama Nubbly mentioned her $1 section at Tarjey having some HK stuff, I’ve been itching to check it out. And low and behold some happy goodness made of plastic and paper!!!!

$1 Hello Kitty Goodness

2 refrigerator notepads, a maraca pen, a 4 in one pen, a mirror, and a notepad. Things that I don’t need.at.all. But I know they won’t last long and I would regret not getting them.

So tomorrow lil man is off from school for Veteran’s Day. Don’t know what I want to do with the kids though. It’s supposed to start raining again.

As much as I want it

November 7, 2006 – 12:38 am

tokidoki

And as much as the big mister said I can have it, my Stellina shall have to wait. B/c I’ve got places to go and people to hang out with. Finally! And even after the places and people, maybe he’ll get it for me for Christmas instead *hint, hint, nudge nudge*, but I know I won’t be deserving of it after all that. LoL.

I’ve been watching…

November 7, 2006 – 12:34 am

In addition to all the shows I’m addicted to on regular tv, I’ve also been watching some backed up episodes of Weeds.

weeds

No I don’t partake in the herb! The show is hilarious though. And just the storyline of the suburban mom living in her homogenous neighborhood is just hilarious. Check it out if you’ve got a moment or two.

Glow in the dark mini golf

November 4, 2006 – 12:05 am

We went to a birthday party this evening, for my “lil brother’s” oldest daughter. She turned 7 today. It was J’s first time playing mini golf and he s.u.c.k.e.d. LoL. The kids were grouped in 4s and so everyone in J’s group was 7, which included the birthday girl. She got her way and cheated quite a bit  but the other kids didn’t mind. J kept saying “It’s okay, she can do whatever she wants. It’s her birthday.” What a good sport.

We got to the venue early b/c I wasn’t sure how the traffic would be travelling down to the south bay. It gave us ample time to walk the mall and “shop”. I almost had a cow, as I thought the shoe store that me and Mama Toots covet so much for the keiki was closed… they just moved to a bigger spot down the ways. WHEW! Got the lil miss a sweater from the G.ap Outlet at 30% off. I really love her in sweaters.

This weekend is another ‘lax kinda one. Lil man finally has his sleepover this weekend. Should be fun.

New snacky

November 2, 2006 – 3:08 pm

New in snacking addiction

I’m all about chips. Saw this at the Asian market and I had to try it. I normally like the kettle chips that are cheddar and jalapeno so I wanted to try these out. YUM! Sold. My mom was hesitant to try it and she couldn’t stop stuffing her face. Lilmiss was hooting and hollering from the backseat and I told my mom to pass her some too. She was all over them as well. LoL. We found them at Al.bertson’s in the bigger bags, so now at least I know. YUM

Experimentation gone RIGHT!!!

November 1, 2006 – 9:48 pm

It was 6PM, I had just ripped the lilman a new bunghole b/c his project that he’s known about for OVER a month is due tomorrow and he forgot the most important part of the project at school. I started dinner without a clue as to what I wanted to do. I washed the rice and put the cooker on. Broke out the cast iron skillet and preheated the oven. Pulled out the 3 pork chops that I had defrosting in the fridge and salt and peppered them. Put a little oil in the skillet and threw in the chops to brown. Then I cut up an onion, an apple, a sweet potato and a potato. Those are the only other things that we had in the house that were “fresh” and not in cans or from the freezer. Once the chops were browned on both sides, I put 2 T of oil in the skillet, scraped up the “goodies”, and threw in the veggies. Let ‘em cook for about 5 minutes, put the chops on top, covered with foil, and popped in the oven. Cooked for another 40 minutes and YUM! Little man is NOT a root veggie eater, but he cleaned his bowl up. Lil miss loved it as well. So it turned out well. I actually only had a spoonful from N’s bowl, but there’s a bit of leftovers for tomorrow.

Now I need to find a recipe for the slab of beef I’ve got sitting in the fridge. I was thinking of some sort of stew, but we shall see.

Finally

November 1, 2006 – 12:24 am

Thanks to Mare, I found out a couple of weeks ago that my BELOVED show is FINALLY coming to DVD…

bh90210

I am soooooo all over it! November 7th baby!!!!

In the past few weeks our cable company has acquired soapnet and I’ve been watching back to back episodes every night. Yeah the lil mister doesn’t understand WHY I watch it, but he has to get over it. He’s more of a FRIENDS child ;)
