Happy New Year everyone.
Big mister had to work last night so it was me and the keiki ringing in the New Year. For the past x years, I’m not sure how many it’s been, but before the clock strikes midnight we turn on all the lights in the house. Then when it finally does strike we do the hug and kiss and before the minute strikes we run through the house and throw coins into every room possible. This was the lilmissy’s 1st year experiencing this craziness and she had that WTF look on her face while her brother and I did our craziness. These are my mom’s silly rituals, light I’m not sure what it’s for but I think it might be for life and the coins for wealth. We enjoyed pizza, piglets in blankets, Ugly Betty Marathon, and Cinderella Story… and then seeing one of J’s hula teachers on TV at one of the NYE parties downtown.
Today we just enjoyed a leisure lunch at my ‘rents. Mama’s prime rib and mashed taters. And tomorrow starts my diet. I’m so serious about that one. Eating better. Portion control. Tread Mill. No soda. Rice once a week. More greens. More fish. Less red meat. I also need to remember to take my vites and get more Calcium into my diet, b/c I canNOT drink milk.
I’m jumping all around here but you’ll get over it. The friend get together on Saturday was fun. Quite a drive down to San Jose, but we don’t have to go there all too often. The new house is still under renovation but it’s quite nice, complete with pool and spa in the backyard, so I’m sure there will be plenty of parties there for the summer. As always there is a white elephant gift exchange. There is a running gag gift for the past 5 years, a lime green fleece sweatshirt, that NO one wants to end up with. But J was commisioned to proxy for MamaToots and get that sweatshirt. He didn’t get it and ended up with an ugly lime green visor and lime green SF T. But the recipient of the coveted sweatshirt traded with J. After stealing a gift and taking a shot for stealing that gift, we ended up with a pretty cool gift. Craftsman toolbox locked with TSA lock, iPod mini speakers, iPod car quick charge, a tripod with level, a Pashmina from Italy, and 3 small packages of Fart Bomb. We scored. Our gift was a gift basket filled with miscellaneous Asian store/ Pilipino goodies: 3 bags of Shrimp Chips, 2 bags of dried mangoes, a can of calamansi juice, a can of mango juice, crispy dilis, a package of Mama Sita’s adobo mix, fish sauce, soy sauce, Mafran, vinegar, Hello Panda, Yan Yan, a jar of macapuno, and a jar of kaong… oh yeah and the basket too. It was actually pretty nice and had I not brought it I would not have minded getting it or even stealing it. There were a few other gag gifts like a purple bullet with chick lit, gift cards, DVDs, DVD games, heaters, lamps, and candles. Good fun!
So as I said… the diet starts tomorrow. Wish me luck
