Children’s Playground

September 26, 2007 – 11:07 pm

After reading Sarah’s blog about how they spent a lovely day in Golden Gate Park, I got all excited. I didn’t know that it had reopened! It was a long time coming. I used to have birthdays there when I was a tot. I basically outgrew that place, and now it’s new and pretty. It was looking scary and shady for awhile, wood structures are definitely out. The new name is definitely never going to sit in my book, forever and always will it Children’s Playground in my book.

So another lovely day occurred today, as should be expected this time of year. And being that it’s one of J’s ‘lax days, I picked him up from school and headed into the city. Oh man it was HOT. But thankfully we were dressed appropriately. Got a parking spot, easy peasy, and in the lot too. Had to wake the lilmiss from her slumber but she was more than happy, b/c I said “PARK”. . The carousel is still there but I had to make the keiki byline that, as the point was to check out the “new” park. Oh man and new it was. 2 new play structures, a swing area, a climbing rope tower, a water play area, and they still kept the wall slide!!! YAY!!! Lil man eagerly picked up a piece of cardboard and trekked up the stairs. His sister wasn’t far behind but I knew she wouldn’t have been able to do it, so I walked her back down. Then as soon as he came down a hoard of children came through and started to run up the stairs. Maybe they needed someone to show them the ways, I don’t know. Heh.

They milled around and checked out their designated play areas. Lilmiss seemed to find a friend on the slide and they took turns going up and down the stairs and slide. Lilmiss seemed irritated that she kept calling her “Baby” though, and she was smaller than N. N just kept saying “I’m not a baby Mommy!” Then it was off to the swings. N’s most favorite part of parks. I like it because it keeps her confined.

So it turned out to be a good idea and a good day to check out the “new” park. Definitely a change from the “good ol’ days”. The keiki seemed to enjoy it. N kept making bylines towards the water play and I can’t blame her. It was a nice day. It just didn’t look to be one of the cleaner places to be playing. And there also seemed to be a clique of mommies already hanging out there. I just made up the excuse that she needed her babing soup (N’s translation for bathing suit), and it was good enough for her.

Here’s hoping for more good weather and park days!

Muffin Shmuffin- a review

September 26, 2007 – 1:09 pm

Looks back 2 posts, so I’m due for a review of the muffins from the other day, hmmm!!! I thought with all the rave reviews this would be a hit in my book. *scratches head* Not so much :( . I took the recommendations and substituted oil for butter for the cake itself, still used the good stuff for the streusel topping and I added nuts to the inside, b/c we’re nutty like that ;) . As I mixed I noticed the batter was a bit dense, not what I’m used to with my moms usual banana bread. But whatevers.

So as soon as they were cool enough, lilmiss and I shared a muffin. She ate the top, and passed the rest on to me. And it was dry. Blah! I was ready to toss ‘em, knowing the bigmisters dislike for dry cakes/ muffins. But my conscience got to me and so I saved ‘em and told the lilman he could eat ‘em for breakfast. Like me he is not a breakfast eater. He’s a snacker and has actually been missing eating breakfast in favor of watching some morning cartoons. Well surprisingly enough they were a big hit with him and even the big mister!!!!!! Then again, they both did eat them the day after. Maybe that’s the ticket? I’m still not budging.

My boyfriend

September 26, 2007 – 11:33 am

Do I want to see it? Of course I do! Will I get to see it? Bigmister says the lilman and I can go out to watch it and he’ll stay home with the lilmiss, but we’ll see how that pans out. I caught him on Regis and Kelly this morning. I totally forgot he would be doing the talkshow circuit with the movie coming out and all. Such a DOOF! Lilmiss woke up in the middle of the interview and said, “Mommy it’s your boyfriend!” Muahahaha, now only if it were true. And yes I watched the Rock Block on Disney.

I’m in a baking kinda mood

September 24, 2007 – 11:14 am

cupcakepan So Im in a baking kinda mood today. I’ve actually been on a banana cake/ muffin kick as of late. My mom hasn’t been making her infamous moist and yummy banana bread, and I need to remember before she heads out to the islands to snag that recipe from her. So I searched the web and found this recipe. Mom gave lilmiss some ba-banas and I snagged them for the recipe. The house is smelling DELICIOUS!!!! I’ll be sure to let y’all know how they come out. Mom’s apple tree has been producing lots of fruit too and she gave us a HUGE bag the other day so I’m thinking I might have to try this recipe, unless someone else out there has anything I can do with apples other than slicing ‘em up and feeding ‘em to the keiki.

Must see TV

September 22, 2007 – 1:24 am

tvOkay so I just got done watching the first 6 episodes of Season 3, and damn this is good tv. I love cable. Seriously! This show just trips me out to no avail, and NO I don’t smoke out/ up/ what ever in the hell. It’s just an interesting storyline that I would never want to be subject too! Some of the characters are just bonkers and they drive me nuts, but they make the show what it is. Mar.y Kat.e, OY! The girl is just NOT cute. I always thought she and her twin looked like monkeys when they first showed up on the tube. But whatevers, they did something right, somewhere. Right? They’re frickin kazillionaires, too bad they’ve got issues.

I tried watching Tell me you love me on HBO and man oh man that was just pron. OY! I couldn’t sit past half an hour b/c it seemed every 10 minutes there was a sex scene or some nudity. Seriously, cable, they get away with everything. I’m no prude don’t get me wrong, just I don’t know about this show. Maybe I need to watch another episode to weigh it’s true wealth in my book.

Random

September 21, 2007 – 8:58 pm

San Francisco is a huge city, as if you already didn’t know that. It’s divided into districts. Today we were in the Sunset. My mom used to work there and we had some errands to run out that way. Anyhow there was a restaurant out that way that I’ve been wanting to try for a few weeks now. Well today was the day to get me some dry fried chicken wings at San Tung!!! We walked in and instantly I spotted ‘Fesser (lilman’s Professor @karate) sitting at a table alone enjoying his lunch. Sent the lilmiss over to say “HI”. He was surprised to see her! The place was crowded, which is to be expected apparently, it was afterall lunchtime. So they seated us at the same table as him. Lol. That was random siting #1 of the day.

So we walked to our supremo parking spot, no meter! no 2 hour limit! within a block of where we had to go in both directions! And as I’m getting the lilmiss into the car, I hear a “pssst” come from the males milling in the driveway. Ewww, oh no he d’int! I wasn’t going to bother to even turn around, but it was a friend from back in the day. Someone I had a crush on pre-bigmister times  . We talked for a little bit and his friend looks @ the lilmiss sitting in her carseat, asks how old she is, says hold on, and runs back into the house. So I’m chatting with the friend and his friend comes out bearing gifts for the lilmiss. Heh apparently he’s got an online clothing store and gave the lilmiss some shirts from their toddlers line. Awesome!Funny my friend, I used to talk to him for hours on end back in the day, and now it’s random occurences that we “run into” each other. Even though he still lives in the same neighborhood as my ‘rents house and I’m there nearly 4 days of the week. Yeah random siting #2 all within the same neighborhood of such a huge city. Heh.

Back to the mundane.

September 17, 2007 – 8:32 pm

I made dinner tonight! I mean I made something last week, but today I went all out today. Heh. Tri tip, asparagus, and rice! Yum! And the keiki cleaned their plates. Very satisfying. Home cooked meals rock my boat, I just need to get back into my groove. Heh. Funny thing, I been in the baking mood too just not too sure what I wanna bake. Saw a cool recipe for pumpkin bread pudding on View From the Bay. Only it takes 10 egg yolks. Good Lawd that’s a whole lotta eggs. But it’s nearly pumpkin season, if you didn’t know I like the fall. I like the brisk weather and the smells. Yum. Need to find a more reasonable recipe though.

Lil man is doing wonderfully in school. But it’s what’s to be expected moving him from the school he was at. It’s just the politics @ the past school were the PITS! He’s now in public school and well ahead his classmates so his teacher is assigning him MORE work. Good! I’m glad. . Him not so much. He likes all the free time he has when he’s home. I don’t. I remember him last year having 1.5 hours of homework. Now it’s barely a half an hour. Egads! But he’s a kid right? And he needs to enjoy his time as a kid.

So I’m still contemplating the costumes this year. I was leaning towards fairy for the lilmiss. I still might. I’m just not too keen on the commercialized stuff as of late. I’ve pondered the crafting of her costume, and I’ve still got a bit of time, we shall see. Lil man has expressed NOTHING in the way of costumes. BLAH! Which is only going to make it harder for me.

I’m getting sooooooo tired of reruns! What am I looking forward to? How I Met Your Mother (9/24), Ugly Betty (9/27), Grey’s Anatomy (9/27), Brothers and Sisters (9/30), Lost and maybe even Desperate Housewives (9/30). And I suppose in replacement of Gilmore Girls, I’ll see how Gossip Girl (9/19) goes, although it’s quite a different genre. Also might want to check out Dirty Sexy Money (9/26). Seems most everything starts next week. Whew! FInally!

Routine achieved

September 10, 2007 – 3:34 pm

Okay so I think I’m finally settled into this new routine of ours, up until my mom leaves at the end of the month *sniffles*. Man it really is hectic but thankfully I’m pickup and afterschool activities! Although pickup isn’t always oh so convenient!

So the keiki are doing well. Lilman is settling into his new schedule, new school, and being back to hula and karate. Although I was quite disappointed in last week’s hula class. Jordan did “exercises” and that’s pretty much it. Yeah I understand he’s been gone for 2 months BUT having him sit out for 1 WHOLE hour was kinda pointless, he might as well have told us to go home.

He’s gotten praise already 2 days in a row. First was last week for an overall week report on how well he does in class and how well behaved he is. And then today his teacher approached me to tell me how wonderfully patient and smart he is. He’s ahead of the rest of the class in math so she allows him to work independently, he happened to finish a problem on his own and was asked to teach the class step by step how he did it. MsH said he explained it perfectly. Nice job lilman! As a reward, I treated him to an Icee pop! Strangely it’s been hot again.

As for the lilmiss, she’s doing well. The pottying is coming along wonderfully!!! She speaks so well, it’s fun! And she’s fun too. She still has her terrible 2 moments but the good far outweigh those!
