Mmmm… pancakes

October 31, 2007 – 11:47 pm

pancakes It’s all bad when you’re watching tv at night, and damn it’s not even the food channel, and you get a craving for something to eat… like pancakes. I’m talking about the melt in your mouth fantastic variety. I can’t do ‘em myself like that. I’m not a pancake making sunday mama, I’m just not. Eggs in a basket aka popeye I can do. I’ve even managed to make a grubbin home fries potato kinda dish, but pancakes I just can’t do. And sadly the damn tv has me hankerin’ for some melt in your mouth fantastic pancakes and it’s nearly midnight. Last time I ordered pancakes was at an all bad experience at Max’s Op.era Cafe down the peninsula. Pancakes. Weak sauce. Even the ones at Den/ny’s and even I.hop are better *gasp* Yeah no kidding. So how do I fix this? I can’t. I will just have to turn off the tv, close up the laptop and dream of yummy pancakes and only hope that I can have some soon.

Happy Halloween

October 31, 2007 – 9:47 pm

Got home not too long ago. The kids are pooped, and so am I.

We headed down the peninsula tonight. Had dinner at our friends’ house, and trick- or- treated out that way. They just moved in over the summer so this was their first Halloween. They had loads and loads of candy. And they did the house up with all kinds of neat decorations. They were giving out handfuls upon handfuls of candy. And sadly not too many other houses were giving out. It was like either every other house or every 2-3 houses, so the keiki got a good workout. People were pretty nice out there though and thankfully I didn’t need to carry the lilmiss @ all. Towards the last few houses she did ask to be carried, but I let her walk it out ;) . Lots and lots of good loot, this one house was even giving out jack o’ lantern flashlights with batteries even.

A little more than enough candy to go around. Hope yours was a good one. It was quite nipply out there tonight. YAY! Fall is here!

My own girly girl

October 28, 2007 – 11:43 pm

So the Big Book came out this weekend. We don’t get home delivery of the paper so we picked up one @ 7-11 yesterday and imagine how pissed I was to NOT find my the Big Book in our paper  !!! Thankfully my friend had an extra and passed it on to us. Ever since we got home from the party lilmiss has been oogling and googling the thing. Lilman hasn’t even had a chance to look in it, but honestly I think this one is heared towards the girlies.

Everyday we head to pick up the lilman early just so N can get some socialization and playtime @ the preschool that I usd to work at/ sub on occasion at, also the preschool that J went to. She’ll play with her lil friends for a bit and then gravitate towards the play kitchen. She loves that thing, and actually would love to get her one, but there is just NO room anywhere in the house for something like that… unless we get rid of a TON of the junk in here.

I would love for her to have the one on the bottom but that’s just HUGENESS. The one on the top seems more reasonable. It’s a double sided thing with a grill like thing on the backside… she saw it in the add and just keeps pointing out the hangabur (trans: hamburger) . Maybe Santa can bring it. As we lie in bed… she’s got the book open on her lap and won’t let me take it away from her.

I do remember as child, looking through the Serv.ice Mer.chandise, JCP.enney, Sea.rs, and Be.st catalogs during the holidays and wishing and hoping to my s content.

IRRITATED!!!!!

October 26, 2007 – 3:39 pm

Soooooooo irritated to the nth degree. Just spent 40 minutes ON HOLD, on my cell phone b/c we don’t have a landline! 40 minutes on hold for NOTHING b/c they couldn’t move my appt, NOTHING. My head hurts. The kids weren’t being very cooperative either. My head hurts. My head hurts. MY HEAD HURTS!

Cooling down significantly

October 25, 2007 – 2:10 pm

So the past 3 days we were enjoying sunny skies and warm temps. Today is quite the opposite. It’s overcast, the sun is no where in site and the temps have dipped a bit. I’ve had to close the windows a bit b/c it was getting nipply. Big mister is on a “business trip” and returns tomorrow so I had to get up and take the lil man to school, hence my lil nap I just woke from. Thankfully lil miss can be occupied pretty easily without getting herself into trouble.

She has acquired the word “sweetie” not sure where that came from as we don’t use that word in this house. When she’s feeling nice and sensitive she’ll caress your face and say something along the lines of, “It’s okay sweetie. You’ll be alright!” I’m telling you she has become a nut.

Dinner oh dinner… how I dread thee sometimes. Well the past 3 days my kids have thankfully enjoyed spaghetti leftovers. But I don’t think I can pass that off again. But I’m feeling lazy and so frozen pizza it is.

All excited

October 22, 2007 – 9:54 pm

So today I had to make a trip to the post office, and I had to go inside. I normally don’t. I just drop the goods in the box on the corner and I’m good to go. Imagine my surprise as lilmiss and I are walking to the counter and I spy out of the corner of my eye, Disn.ey stamps!!!! Awww yeah! I only bought one sheet and I plan on using them. I think there are some comic inspired ones around here somewhere. Not sure if I used ‘em all or not. And those kiddy books ones… damn I sooo should’ve saved those. I’m such a dork. That Hun.gry Cat.erpillar one was damned cute. Lilmiss saw the stamps and thought they were stickers for her! HA! Puhlease $8.20 stickers. NOT! She kept saying, “Mickey Mouse Cow-couse, Mommy!!! Those are mine!” Uhm yeah NO!!!!

But to show you how often I buy stamps… I had to go in and buy these, b/c I just finished off the last of my 39 cent Valentine ones. LMAO!!!

And for dinner tonight….

October 22, 2007 – 4:34 pm

notmyphoto We are having spaghetti. I haven’t made it in quite awhile. And actually everything is done and made, I just think it’s too early to eat just yet. I actually was just going to heat up some leftovers but went to the market for strawberries and was inspired to have some spaghetti. Not my usual way of making it either. Meatier than the photo too and no bread to accompany it. The only thing with spaghetti is that we are guaranteed PLENTY of lefotvers, which for tomorrow’s case (busy day), it works out. But….. lilman has a fundraiser @ Pas.ta Pom.odoro come Wednesday, so I didn’t think this one out too good.

It’s been lovely weather lately, unfortunately something happened to my back. Pinched nerve? I dunno but it’s hurtin’. Started yesterday. Blech. But yeah nice weather might just warrant some milkshakes or fruit smoothies or something. YUM.

Off to stuff my face with something or other.

Annual Trip the Pumpkin Patch

October 20, 2007 – 3:41 pm

Our Annual Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

We had our annual trip to take the keiki to the pumpkin patch today. Wasn’t sure if the weather was going to cooperate and other than things being a lil damp, it was a good trip. Lilmiss loooooooooooooooooved pushing the wheel barrows around and didn’t really care to share much. The keiki picked 2 small ones and I don’t even know if I’ll be able to carve them. Heh.

Lilman also picked up his costume finally today.

Jones-ing

October 19, 2007 – 12:13 pm

Oh man I been jones-ing for some lumpia for quite some time now, the shanghai variety. Went to a birthday party last month and had enough to satiate me, but I want MORE! LoL. Don’t have any reserves in the freezer either and I just don’t have the time to be sitting and rolling my own right now. Phooey! And being in one of the Cali meccas of Pinoys, there are a ton of restaurants that I can buy the stuff at, but sometimes they’re not fresh and/or they charge an arm and a leg.

So b/c I need to make a trip to the Asian Market, I might just buy a bag of the frozen stuff *tsk, tsk* I know, shame on me! But my $ goes a bit further like that, and I can feed the keiki too without being a meanie and hogging it all to myself  . I also need to buy some fixxins for some version of beef stew. I’ve got the ‘taters, ’shrooms, onions, and beef. I need carrots, sweet ‘taters, celery, and some beef stock!

It’s a lazy Friday here. Had to get up early as big mister had to be across the Bay for work early, so I dropped the lilman to school, came home, and crawled back into bed. Still in my jammies, so is the lilmiss ;) @ least she’s fed tho. Heh. Need to head to the market, pick up the lilman, and get started on dinner sometime.

It rained sometime last night/ this morning but it’s certainly clearing up b/c there’s a light stream of sunlight peeping through. Have a lovely weekend. We’ve got some pumpkin patching planned!

Leftover chicken

October 17, 2007 – 3:46 pm

Yesterday was one of the longest and roughtest Tuesdays I’ve ever had. I was running here and there and everywhere and still managed to get the keiki a semi homecooked meal. Swung by Cost.co and picked up one of their rotisserie chickens. Uhm, hello!!!! When did they raise the price of those bad boys? They are now $5.99! Supposedly bigger but I can’t tell the difference. It just means MORE chicken to deal with later. The keiki had their meals on the run, in the car as we went here and there and everywhere. Slices of chicken with steamed rice and steamed mixed veggies. Oh yeah with dashes of shoyu ;) .

And now for today, I pulled apart the carcass and shredded the chicken and made pollo en salsa roja, inspired from Mama Toot’s dinner that we enjoyed the other night. Homemade chicken tacos with cilantro, sour cream, and cheese with a side of the “corn mush”. Lilmiss loves that corn stuff that they serve @ Chev.y’s so I tried to make some sort of adaptation of it. Hopefully it comes out as yummy.

I had to pick up the lilman early today as he came down with something. A call from school had me alarmed, but apparently the flu is going around. Great *sense the sarcasm*!!! I gave him some Mot.rin and instructed him to take a nap. That he did and now he and his sister are having lovely lil arguments *sense the sarcasm again*.

Dinner is cooking, we might just be eating earlier than anticipated. And no worries if lil miss isn’t into this meal, I kept some chicken on the side and can give her the same stuff we had yesterday  .

Yummy in the tumminess

October 15, 2007 – 6:06 pm

So I went and searched All Recipes for a recipe for those raspberries. Strangely a lot of the recipes required raspberry jam as opposed to fresh raspberries. *scratches head* Go figure! Anyhow I was intrigued by this recipe, I mean hello how can you go wrong with anything with the word “custard” in it. ! I did take a picture of the end result and it looked like lasagna in the pan. Oh but heaven it was YUMMY! One quirk though is the raspberry seeds. Kuchen I am unsure of though, I asked the bigmister (as he took many years of German in school, even in honors in high school) and he couldn’t remember if it meant kitchen, cake, or cookies.

Raspberries

October 14, 2007 – 11:48 am

RaspberriesMama Toots and the whole Tootles clan is leaving town for a bit and we were “gifted” some of their excess groceries. One of which happened to be LOTS and LOTS of raspberries. And I don’t quite know what to do with them as I’m not a fan and neither are the keiki. I’m thinking if I can disguise them in some sort of baked good, we’d be good to go. I could go the smoothie route but strangely the lilmiss isn’t fond of those either unless from places where I have to pay for a smoothie . So yeah anyone out there have any suggestions for raspberries? Or point me in a direction for a recipe of some sort???

Being good, well kinda.

October 11, 2007 – 2:23 pm

So I’ve been cooking (dinner) more at least this week anyhow. And the only times we’ve eaten out have been small lunches. Less than $5 yesterday.

Tonight we’re having chicken BLT sammiches made at home. The boneless skinless chicken breast is on sale right now. And I could make some sort of stri fry thing but I’m trying to cut down on the rice in take. I’m not sure how the lilmiss will fare with a sammich so I might just cook her up the chicken and bacon. LoL. And give her some avocado on the side.

Ugh now to think of tomorrow’s menu. BLAH.

And for dessert….

October 8, 2007 – 6:06 pm

(Not my photo) We had Brey.er’s Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream and Fresh sliced strawberries. HEAVEN!!! Saf.eway had BOGO on the strawberries and the lilmiss begged for them. I was actually looking for blueberries while @ Co.stco but they didn’t have ‘em and they were $3.99 for a teensy weensy packet @ Saf.eway so lilmiss won out. I would have to say with the right vanilla ice cream, none of that fakie stuff, and some fresh strawberries I can be one happy camper. Lilman finished his bowl and asked for more, just, strawberries please.

Columbus Day Dinner

October 8, 2007 – 5:46 pm

It’s really rather a strange day. The lilman had the day off, something he hasn’t had off in 3 years. Had a busy weekend, went out to watch the Blue Angels being that it was Fleet Week here in SanFr.ancisco. Scored really good seats even. Made it a day out there and walked a LOT! From the Ferry Building to Ghiradelli and back. There was a ton of cars and people out there so I’m happy that we walked it and used Muni instead of herding with the masses. Thankfully bigmister works along some street car lines, otherwise I’m sure we would have been with the herds.

Unfortunately, we’ve been eating out waaaaaaaaaaaay too much, lunch and dinner yesterday while we were out on the town. I’m in one of my “moods” again where I just don’t care to cook, and there hasn’t been much in the way of cooking anyhow other than things from the freezer that can be microwaved. Blech.

Dinner is served So today I trekked to Cost.co for some things for the fridge and tummies, and a few things for lilman’s school lunches. I’ve been on a fish kick again and so salmon it was. The salmon in the picture does NOT give it justice, it’s just my crappy cellphone camera. But it was delish nonetheless. Just a few sprinkles of garlic salt, a few pats of butter, and some fresh lemon slices and juice. Strangely my keiki love asparagus. I’m not complaining, NO I’m not. I just find it strange that they gobble up the stuff on their plates. Clearly something they didn’t get from their dad. I was skeptical that N wouldn’t eat her share of salmon but she finished hers and asked for more :D . YAY! I’m hoping that the bigmister doesn’t get wind of the leftovers in the fridge, he’s @ work right now, so that we can enjoy it again tomorrow for dinner ;) .

I love to cook, I just hate having to “think” of things to eat that BOTH kids will eat. J has a “picky” palate at times, he’s not much into “ethnic” food. Lilmiss has her days when she can be picky and will only eat rice and soy sauce. So today’s meal was a great success, unfortunately salmon and asparagus aren’t always on sale.

I’ve thought about making a menu on Sundays to prep myself, like another mommy friend does. And maybe someday I will, it just hasn’t happened yet.

Crazy 8

October 4, 2007 – 3:36 pm

Gym.boree has added a new store to their line Crazy8 and one just so happens to be @ my local mall. The clothes are super cute. There was actually a pair of shoes that I spied in the window for N, unfortunately it’s for the bigger girls’ size. Poo. But they’ve got some reaaaaaallllllllly cute stuff. Like the super cute monkey line!!! AAACK!!!

And unlike Gymbo I can actually shop for J there too! Strangely for a new store they’ve already got items ON SALE!!! If you haven’t got one in your area, I know they’re currently offering free shipping. So cute, I know some of you mommies out there who style their children would love this store!!! I already do.

More baking

October 4, 2007 – 9:28 am

This time with the apples my mom gave us from her backyard. My mom has this really awesome apple cake recipe, it’s called AppleKaka, no really! But I wanted to try and find something else, and that I did. I omitted the topping though and also made ‘em into muffins. Tweaked the recipe a bit and took the suggestion of using applesauce and I also added raisins and cinnamon. DEE-LI-SHUZ! This time it made 36 muffins though, but oh so moist and delicious and similar to mom’s AppleKaka.
